Winter Holiday Celebration! - 12/11/2008

It's time for the fourth-annual Winter Holiday Celebration in The Matrix Online! During this period, snow will be falling in the Mega City with Snowmen and Holiday Helper Vendors to help you get into the holiday spirit. The Winter Holiday Celebration will start on December 18th and continue till January 15th.

This Winter Holiday, operatives can enjoy the gift of sharp new clothing items: "Winter Vests" for men, "Bathrobes" for women, "Snow Globe Glasses" for both, and 3 other items.

Winter Holiday Features

  • Snowball Fights - Four types of Snowman Vendors can be found in each District with different types of Snowballs for sale. (Icy, Slushy, Powdery, and Rocky)
  • Mobile Snowman Vendors - Three Mobile Snowman Vendors will spawn around the city. These are luggable objects that dispense snowballs and can be dragged around by players. Only three will spawn per world, so get them while you can!
  • Holiday Helpers - Holiday Helper Vendors, outside Mega City clubs, will trade Holiday and Party hats to players for one of each type of Snowball. They will also sell special mission activation tickets. Complete these missions to earn Perfect Snowflakes which can be turned in for special gloves, hats, masks, and many other items available only during this time of year. Due to the volume of items they have to carry, Holiday Helper Vendors now come in pairs.
  • Winter Weather Advisory - City weather forecasters are predicting increased snowfall for the coming month. All the better for your Winter Holiday activities.

Snowball Fights

Snowball fights are back! You'll need two things to have a fight: a Holiday Hat and a snowball (preferably, many snowballs). You'll need some snowballs to get a Holiday Hat, anyway, so you might as well stock up.

There are four types of snowballs--Icy, Slushy, Powdery, or Rocky--available from Snowman Vendors of the same type. There are four Snowman Vendors--one of each type--in each District in the game. Find each of the vendors, purchase some of each type (each type stacks), then go find a Holiday Helper.

Holiday Helpers are outside the different clubs in the Matrix. They sell both the Holiday Hats used for snowball fights and the Party Hats. (We'll get to those later.) Holiday Hats come in red and green in case you want to divide into teams--both work exactly the same. Equip a Holiday Hat and you're put into the "festive" state. While you're in the festive state, you can throw snowballs at other players in the festive state and be targeted by snowballs, as well. Each time you take a hit from a snowball, your Holiday Hat takes stability damage. After a few hits, the hat disappears. Players can stage snowball fights where "last hat standing" wins.

Mobile Snowman Vendors

In each district, you can find a luggable snowman vendor for each type of snowball. That's right, pick one of these puppies up and you can provide a constant source of snowballs for your team. Of course, you'll have to drop it into the world for them to use it, which leaves it possible for others to steal it.
Remember the rules for luggables: You can't teleport or leave the world with them. If you do either, or die while carrying one, it immediately drops into the world.

Holiday Helpers

As mentioned above, Holiday Helpers will again be selling Holiday Hats and Party Hats for snowballs. The Holiday Hats are for fighting, while Party Hats can be equipped and then activated to shoot off confetti effects for you holiday parties.

Holiday Helpers will trade you special gloves, hats, masks, and many other items available only during this time of year for Perfect Snowflakes. How do you get Perfect Snowflakes? Well, you have to pick up a Holiday Ticket. Holiday Tickets can be activated to start special holiday missions. On these missions, you'll have to take presents to some good little bluepills. Of course, there are some big, unfriendly simulacra that might have something to say about that.

Winter Weather Advisory

City weather forecasters are predicting increased snowfall for the coming month, all the better for your Winter Holiday activities. Watch out for the abominable snowmen which will ambush players during the holiday missions. They don't move, so they're easy to escape. However, killing these NPCs will be well worth the effort!

Happy Holidays from The Matrix Online Team!
